Bosch vs Dewalt Table Saw: What’s the Tool for You?

If you’re in the market for a new table saw, Bosch and DeWalt are probably two of the first names that come to mind. These powerhouses have been around for quite some time and have each been responsible for some top-quality machines over the years.

The all-new Bosch 4100 has finally arrived on the scene, and with that, we decided to see how it fares by measuring it up against its rival: the DeWalt DWE749. Let’s get started.

Table Saw 101

First thing’s first. There are few purchases more important than a table saw for a woodworker. Whether you’re a DIY guy or in need of fresh new equipment for the job site, purchasing a reliable table saw should be one of your top priorities.

To help you get a better sense of table saw reviews, I’ve put together a quick how-to guide to determine which brand comes out on top.

Why Should I Purchase a New Table Saw?

For virtually all professional carpenters and woodworkers, a table saw is going to be a necessity at some point.

Whether you are a beginner or a skilled craftsman, you will benefit from adding a table saw to your arsenal if you haven’t already. Why? Because there is nothing that a circular saw can do that a table saw cannot do in less time.

With a table saw, apprentices and novices can learn how to precision-cut lumber with ease. Compared to a circular saw, a beginner woodworker can slice through even the toughest cuts of wood in a fraction of the time.

Buyer’s Guide to Table Saws

There are two main varieties of table saws: portable table saws and benchtop table saws. If you are an expert DIY woodworker, it is a good idea for you to invest in a benchtop saw because you can set it up in your household garage and keep it there permanently. For professional carpenters, you should consider a portable unit which you can bring to any job site.

If you are still unsure whether you should invest in a portable or benchtop saw, or whether you need to make sure buy a saw with a dust collector, we recommend watching this instructional video by the WoodWorkers Guild of America.

What Are Table Saws Most Commonly Used For?

To use a table saw correctly, you must first understand what you will need it for. In most woodshops, the table saw is the workhorse that does all the heavy lifting. Thanks to table saws, large wood projects can be completed in half the time—and with half the injury rate.

One of my favorite aspects of the table saw is its versatility. For instance, they are necessary tools for making everything from cabinets and doors to bed frames and backyard decks. Tool Showdown

Now that you know how to shop for a table saw, it’s time you compare two of the top models on the market to see which is best for you. Today, the Bosch 4100 and DeWalt DWE7491RS are in the spotlight, and I’ll break down their various benefits and drawbacks below.

Bosch 4100

The Bosch 4100 provides the utility of a 10-inch saw blade and the security of a sturdy, portable aluminum tabletop. Although it has a bulkier frame that weighs 60 lbs., this worksite portable table saw has 4 HP and carries 120 volts, which makes it among the most powerful in the industry.

While I would appreciate if it came with a cord longer than six feet, this stable surface and high-powered blade should get most jobs done in a breeze. Plus, an adjustable rip fence makes sure you get a safe and clean cut every time—that is, if you can find out how to adjust it to parallel–which seems to have been a struggle for some users.

What We Like

  • Powerful 4 HP motor can saw through 4x4s and construction boards with ease
  • Deep dust collectors under the tabletop keep messes to a minimum
  • Most of the unit comes pre-assembled for quick startup
  • Folds easily for storage in trucks or flatbeds

What We Don’t

  • The cord is only 6-feet long, making it unable to move to some areas of the job site
  • May take some adjusting to find out how to adjust rip shield to parallel

DeWalt DWE7491RS

At an attractive price point, the Dewalt DWE7491RS provides some of the best safety features you will find in a table saw. You’ll notice right away that the rack and pinion fence rails slide easily and smoothly, making this saw much safer to operate than some of the stickier models on the market.

There is hardly anything not to like about this table saw. If you want an accurate fence system with a stable stand and solid rip capacity, this is the table saw for you. However, like the Bosch, adjusting the blade to parallel could create a few minor headaches along the way.

What We Like

  • Strong 15-amp motor cuts through thick lumber in seconds
  • The easy-slide fence makes for accurate cuts
  • The stand sits low for comfortable use for both tall and shorter people
  • Built-in tool storage for added convenience

What We Don’t

  • Blade alignment can take several minutes
  • Attachment points on the side of the rack may get caught on clothes

Wrap Up

Both premium power tools are excellent pieces of equipment in their own right, and there’s a lot to like about Bosch worksite table. But, if I had to compare Bosch vs. DeWalt table saw models with each other, I would side with the classic DeWalt DWE7491RS.

The easy-to-use fence and rail system on the DeWalt saw makes this the safer option of the two, and the large dust collector beats out its Bosch counterpart. However, those standing 6’4” and above might be more comfortable using the Bosch 4100 because of its customizable stand.

With a rip capacity over 32 inches, the DeWalt DWE7491RS is our preferred choice for a table saw. Regardless of your experience level, you can never over-invest in your safety, which makes the DeWalt the top pick.
