We're big fans of tools.
We're also big believers in working with your hands.
Skilled craftsmanship is a part of the fabric of America, and we love to see students getting their hands dirty and learning how to create beautiful things with the use of tools.

To that end, TheSawGuy.com is a proud supporter of various projects at Donors Choose - where teachers from around the country look for financial assistance in getting supplies for their class.
In our case, we look for projects where students will have an opportunity to build, create, and learn how to work with their hands. We're proud to support these students. Here is a look at some of the projects we've supported:
We'd encourage you to get involved as well! Visit Donors Choose and look for a project that you can get behind!
Federal Hill Prep School - Baltimore, MD
Mrs. Overstreet describes her role this way: "I teach four classes (approximately 98 students) at a Title I inner city school. Our school is very small, which limits our funding, which, in turn, prohibits us from being able to provide "outside the box" opportunities for our children. The students love to create, design, build, and invent things, but we have limited resources to make this a realization."
The project outline was "for the teams of four students each to design and create their own Rube Goldberg machine. Their contraption must include at least five simple machines and be able to complete a rudimentary task via multiple complicated steps.
With these materials, the students will be able to put the Engineering Design Process into practical and real-life use. They will be able to become true engineers and demonstrate the scientific concepts and skills that were taught during the unit at the same time."
The SawGuy.com was happy to make a donation toward the sharptooth saws the kids needed!
Mrs. Overstreet told me that many of the students had never used a saw before, which makes these photos even more awesome:

Build That Math - Mrs. Brown
Mrs. Brown is teaching math by letting her students construct different objects.
The project we supported is described as "If you help with this project you will be putting needed building materials in the hands of these students. They will use the rubber bands to create a Barbie bungee jump. They will use measurements and skill to create the safest bungee jump that is fun and it will require math. Students will see they need and maybe enjoy math. They will use the rubber bands, magnets, tape, aluminum foil and all the other items to build derby cars from pop tart boxes..."
We were glad to chip in on the purchase of these items and look forward to hearing how this project goes!
